Yes I agree - we do not need to be plugged into the Paris Accord. But who's going to be politically brave enough to pull the plug?

In fairness, extending the analogy, this probably depends on the ecological niche you want to occupy. Some creatures make a specialty of minimum activity: 'success' for them means enduring by doing less and needing less (and presumably avoiding the attention of predators or more energetic competitors for the same resources).

Living the life of a sloth presumably does involve an evolutionary penalty when it comes to confronting rapid change, or more energetic and aggressive rivals who could make more competitive use of the same resources - but until that time, is probably a lot more pleasant (if less intense) than the lives of those creatures who succeed by living fast, taking risks, and dying young.
