Why do governments celebrate Christmas and Easter while rejecting Christian values? Read how the state co-opts Christian holidays to tame the Gospel and neutralize Jesus’ radical message.
I take your point. And in theory I agree with you. But whilst your theology is sound, I’d far rather live in a society based on Judeo Christian values & traditions, than not. Dawkins himself confesses to be a ‘cultural Christian’. I’d prefer that to ‘cultural Islamist’. Yes indeed, our sacred days have been commercialised into the corner, but nature abhors a vacuum. Pull back what’s left of our great traditions and watch what evil fucktardery will jump in to take its place. I’d sooner remain a firmly Christian country and allow people to sort out their personal beliefs with their Maker.
I agree but youre saying something is better than nothing? In our media the christian MPs are mocked as was Bill English when he led National- its always a put down. Whereas animism, as in maori beliefs, are exhaulted at every opportunity- and its increasing. Do we stand up and say 'no, we wont participate in that karakia'- i suspect we mostly dont out of fear of being cast out. Perhaps we should. Christian values are not being taught as 'christian' values and are they actually being 'taught' at all ( other than in homes)?
Oh, Karakia & the general conflation of te Ao Maori with Christianity (ie calling Karakia ‘prayer’ as if to legitimise pagan bullshit) is another thing altogether. 100% agree. I won’t partake in ‘karakia’ wherever possible. If they are talking to tree spirits then they sure as fuck are not praying to the Christian Deity. Sadly Church leaders have gone all in on embracing Maori spirituality, but that’s another rant for another day. I was merely trying to say that I’m happy for agnostics & atheists to freeload off JC values, at least it provides a sustainable worldview under which to build a functional society. (Although Stanford is trying to screw that up with her education reforms embracing tikanga etc. Fool.)
Oh, and yes, I’d also be much happier if kids were taught where their wonderful society came from. And it wasn’t from some animistic culture of totem poles…. Christians do need to assert our heritage, that’s for sure. I’m sick & tired of it being taken for granted and disrespected (as you pointed out!)
In New Zealand, do governments reject Christian values? Many politicians are Christian. No doubt they try their best. Is welfare, which here is pervasive, not a Christian value? I prefer the government to interfere with our lives and livelihood as little as possible.
Interesting point. Mr Luxon is allegedly a man of the Christian faith, yet he appears to support a society bathed in animism & bunkum spirituality. Te Ao Maori, Tikanga, Matauranga, it goes by many names. But it is still a tribal spiritualism where the universe is sacralised, thus it is the antithesis of Judeo Christian faith. It’s also complete poppycock from a scientific perspective, but he still lets it run.

I think he is saying dont leave it to the state and dont merely accept or ask for crumbs at the table.
Yes, I think so too.

Settle back. As you lean forward I can smell the incense on your breath.
